Zusammenfassung:	The invention relates to a system and an associated method for handling marking plates (21) for use in embossing presses (30), wherein the system comprises at least the following components: at least one embossing press (30) having a control unit (31); an order component (50) for generating embossing orders and for transmitting these embossing orders to the at least one embossing press (30); a central management unit (40) that is communicatively connected to the at least one embossing press (30); multiple marking plates (21), each having an opto-electronically detectable identification characteristic (23), in which at least one indicator identifying the respective marking plate (21) is recorded, and the embossing press (30) reads these identifying indicators from an identification characteristic (23) of a marking plate (21) detected by the embossing press (30) and compares same with recorded available indicators, in order to enable an embossing process on the embossing press (30) in the event of a successful comparison.
