Zusammenfassung:	The invention relates to a stamping press (10) for stamping number plates (30), comprising a housing (14) in which a number plate (30) can be placed via a housing opening (15), for a stamping process, the number plate (30) comprising at least one identification feature (31) that clearly identifies the respective number plate (30) and is optically detectable. The invention is characterised in that the stamping press (10) comprises at least one scanning device (20; 21) designed for the optical detection of an identification feature (31), the stamping press (10) comprising a trigger mechanism (23) that can be triggered by the movement of a number plate (30) towards the housing opening (15), the optical detection of the identification feature (31) by the at least one scanning device (20; 21) being able to be generated by said trigger mechanism (23).
