The sulfurized oxy-substituted aromatic polyol compound includes at least one of a sulfurized oxy-substituted aromatic polyol and a salt of a sulfurized oxy-substituted aromatic polyol. The compound is suitable as a replacement for detergents that contain Cn alkyl phenols derived from oligomers of propylene.
