The invention relates to a car (1) for a rail vehicle, having a plurality of fresh water or drinking water containers (111, 112) which are arranged within the car (1). At least one load unit (101, 102) for using the fresh water or drinking water is paired with each fresh water or drinking water container (111, 112). Furthermore, the car (1) has a connection for a common filling process of the plurality of fresh water or drinking water containers (111, 112) with fresh water or drinking water and a line (3, 13) for pumping fresh water or drinking water, said line leading from the connection (2, 12) to the fresh water or drinking water containers (111, 112). Furthermore, a valve (V1, V2, V3, V4) is connected within the line (2, 12) upstream of each fresh water or drinking water container (111, 112). The invention further relates to a method for filling a plurality of fresh water or drinking water containers (111, 112) and to a controller (S) which carries out the method.
