Zusammenfassung:A system transmitting stereo image data comprises a transmitting apparatus and receiving apparatus. The receiving apparatus (650) comprises a transmission-mode-information storing section (652) to store transmission mode information on transmission modes that supported by the receiving apparatus (650), and a transmission-mode-information transmitting section to transmit the transmission mode information to the transmitting apparatus (610) via a digital interface (660) over which it receives stereo image data from the transmitting apparatus. The transmitting apparatus comprises a transmission mode selecting section to select a transmission mode for transmitted stereo image data, on the basis of the transmission mode information received from the receiving apparatus, and a transmission-mode-information transmitting section to transmit transmission mode information regarding the stereo image data transmitted by the data transmitting section (615), to the receiving apparatus (650), by inserting the transmission mode information in a blanking period of the transmitted stereo image data.
