A device for producing a fibrous web, in particular a web of packaging paper, comprises a headbox, a screen section for dewatering a fibrous suspension introduced via the headbox and forming a fibrous web from the fibrous suspension, a press section for further dewatering the fibrous web, and a drying section for drying the fibrous web. The screen section comprises a single-layer former, and the press section comprises at least one press nip, in particular at least one shoe press nip, which is extended in the direction of travel of the web. Furthermore, the drying section is formed at least in part by steel cylinders and is designed for drying screen wire tensions ≥ 4 kN/m, in particular ≥ 5 kN/m.
