METHOD FOR ROUTING DATA PACKETS IN A TELECOMMUNICATIONS NETWORK

A method for routing data packets in a telecommunications network, which comprises at least two end-points (2) running respective application processes (4) through respective sockets (5) so as to exchange data packets with one another within a communication session, and at least one network node (6) interposed between the two end-points (2) and programmed with data packet routing rules, wherein the socket (5) of the endpoint (2) starting the communication session adds, in each data packet to be sent, first items (ST) of information to identify the related running application process (4) and a desired network service for that application process (4) and, optionally, second items (IT) of information for identifying a communication session instance to which said desired network service is to be applied, and the network node (6) reads (102) the first and the second items (ST, IT) of information from each data packet received and applies (103-109) the data packet routing rules based on the first and the second items (ST, IT) of information.
