Zusammenfassung:A method (200) of making a component (10) with a passive strain indicator (40) includes forming (210) the component (10) including an outer surface (14) thereof. The passive strain indicator (40) includes a shim (38) with a plurality of fiducial markers (12). The method (200) also includes forming (220) the plurality of fiducial markers (12) on the shim (38) by deforming selected locations on the shim (38). The method (200) further includes attaching (230) a portion of the shim (38) to the outer surface (14) of the component (10). Forming (220) the component (10) and forming (230) the passive strain indicator (40) are performed separately prior to attaching the shim (38) to the outer surface (14) of the component (10). A system (23) for monitoring strain includes a component (10) and a passive strain indicator (40). A portion of the passive strain indicator (40) is integrally joined with the outer surface (14) of the component (10). The passive strain indicator (40) includes a shim (38) and a plurality of fiducial markers (12). Each fiducial marker (12) is a discrete three-dimensional feature on the shim (38).
