ACETABULUM FOR A HIP PROSTHESIS AND HIP PROSTHESIS COMPRISING SAME

An orientable acetabulum for a hip prosthesis, comprising a cup generally hemispherical in shape, and a device for holding the angular orientation of said cup in the acetabular cavity, characterised in that said holding device comprises an elastic ring (3) having a transverse slot (8) delimited by two edges (9, 10) of the ring (3), the ring (3) being generally circular in shape, and the outer periphery of same comprising asperities (6) that can become embedded in the surface of the acetabular cavity when the elastic ring (3) is in the relaxed state, said elastic ring (3) comprising means for gripping, by means of a tightening ancillary, making it possible to deform the elastic ring (3), by tightening that tends to bring together the edges (9, 10) of the ring (3) delimiting the slot (8), the shapes and dimensions of the different parts of the ring (3) being designed such that, in the tightened state of the ring (3), the asperities (6) do not project beyond the outer surface of the cup, thus making it possible to modify the angular orientation of the cup, and allowing said modification to be carried out without needing to dislocate the hip joint of the patient. A hip prosthesis comprising said acetabulum.
