The steering wheel assembly is characterized by a housing removably locked to the fixed hub, the housing and/or the fixed hub having at least one locking feature; and a locking mechanism that interacts with the at least one locking feature to lock the housing to the fixed hub, with actuation of the locking mechanism in an unlock direction allowing the housing to be unlocked from the fixed hub.
