Zusammenfassung: | A method of operating an internal combustion engine, said method comprising, at each current engine cycle:
using an ignition system, igniting the fuel injected in the combustion chamber (1) at an end portion of a compression stroke of the piston (2) within the cylinder;
prior to said igniting, re-circulating exhaust gases from the exhaust track (3) to the air intake track (6);
prior to said igniting, injecting, from a water injector (7) a controlled quantity of liquid water into the combustion chamber or air intake, wherein said injected liquid water directly reduces a temperature of said re-circulating exhaust gases prior to said igniting,
wherein the fuel handling system provides an air to fuel ratio expressed as a value », said » being greater than 1 and less than 7.0; and
wherein a mechanical compression ratio in each cylinder is greater than 12:1 and less than 40:1. |
