OPERATION OF A DETECTION DEVICE OF A MOTOR VEHICLE FOR DETECTING A SURROUNDING AREA, AND SUCH A DETECTION DEVICE

The invention relates to a method for operating a detection device (1, 1') of a motor vehicle (15), which dection device is designed to detect a surrounding area (12, 12') of the motor vehicle (15), wherein the detection device (1, 1') communicates with a data bus (13) of the motor vehicle (15) for the purpose of data exchange and repeatedly detects scanning data from the surrounding area (12, 12'), comprising detection of scanning data via a scanning unit (2, 2') of the detection device (1, 1') at a detection rate, comprising definition of a scanning end time at which the detection of the scanning data is completed, by means of a computer unit (3, 3'), comprising determination of a time difference between the determined scanning end time and a starting time of one of the detection devices (1, 1') in accordance with a transfer window assigned to a protocol of the data bus by the computer unit (3, 3'), and comprising predefinition of the detection rate for a future detection of scanning data as a function of the time difference determined by the computing unit (3, 3'), in order to improve the synchronization of a detection device (1, 1') of a motor vehicle (50) with a data bus (13) of the motor vehicle (15).
