Zusammenfassung:	Disclosed is a method for diagnosing faults for a motor vehicle, comprising a first functional unit which is configured to interact with a second functional unit, wherein the second functional unit is not a component of the motor vehicle, wherein the first and second functional units can be connected to each other by means of a data connection. The method enables reliable diagnosing of faults, in that a fault which has arisen or arises in the interaction of the first and the second functional unit is detected, a fault source and/or a cause of the fault and/or a fault profile of the fault is determined and the fault source and/or cause of the fault and/or the fault profile of the fault is stored in a fault memory. The invention enables faults to be detected which arise outside the motor vehicle. The invention thus allows subsequent targeted troubleshooting (for instance, in a workshop) and intrinsically prevents fully functional units of the motor vehicle from being serviced or replaced.
