The invention relates to an operating console (1) in a motor vehicle, comprising a cover (2) composed of a substantially light-impermeable material. The cover has at least one operating region (3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13) and at least one visualization region (14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 30) in the form of at least one cut-out or at least one light-permeable region. At least one illumination point (D1 to D14) having at least one light-emitting diode is associated with each operating region or each visualization region. Said light-emitting diode is an RGB light-emitting diode. The illumination points of the cover are electrically connected in a matrix structure. This connection in a matrix structure occurs in such a way that each of the illumination points can be controlled separately and individually or a plurality of the illumination points can be controlled jointly, by an electronic control unit, in such a way that the color and the brightness of each of the illumination points can be set separately and individually or a plurality of the illumination points can be set jointly with respect to the brightness and color thereof.
