Zusammenfassung:	The proposal is for an apparatus and a method for treating fabrics with silicone-containing finishing coats that are notable once completed in having numerous pores rather than being closed. There are various ways in which these pores can be generated in line with the invention to endow the new fabrics not only with the familiar water-repellency of silicone-coated fabrics but also, innovatively, with breathability and permeability to water vapour. Armed with this breathability and water vapour permeability, the new fabrics offer greatly enhanced comfort to the wearer. The new fabrics can likewise protect the wearer from brief flame contact and from exposure to convective and radiant heat.
