Zusammenfassung:	In the method at least one cylinder (2) of an engine (1) is operated using a first fuel as a main fuel, at least one cylinder (2) is operated using a second fuel as a main fuel, combustion process in each cylinder (2) is monitored by measuring a variable or a set of variables describing the combustion process in the cylinder (2), at least one measured variable is compared to a predetermined threshold or target value or target range, and in case the compared variables in a cylinder (2) using the first fuel as the main fuel do not fulfill predetermined requirements, said cylinder (2) is switched to use the second fuel as the main fuel, and at least one cylinder (2) using the second fuel as the main fuel as is switched to use the first fuel as the main fuel.
