CARD READER

Provided is a card reader that is equipped with a withdrawal blocking mechanism that blocks the withdrawal of a card from a card insertion port, and that can reliably detect whether fishing is being attempted, and can prevent malfunctions of the withdrawal blocking mechanism. This card reader is equipped with multiple types of withdrawal detection mechanisms (11-13) that detect the abnormal withdrawal of a card (2) from a card insertion port (3), and a withdrawal blocking mechanism (15) that blocks the abnormal withdrawal of the card (2). The withdrawal blocking mechanism (15) is equipped with a lock member (33) on which a blocking part (33a), which makes contact with the card (2) and blocks the withdrawal of the card (2), is formed. The withdrawal detection mechanisms (11-13) use mutually different methods to detect the abnormal withdrawal of the card (2). Furthermore, with this card reader, when the abnormal withdrawal of the card (2) from the insertion port (3) is detected by the withdrawal detection mechanisms (11-13), the blocking part (33a) moves to a position where the blocking part makes contact with the card (2), thereby blocking the withdrawal of the card (2).
