Zusammenfassung:There is disclosed a method of ordering a feeding sequence of items 116, 118 in a feeding system 102 leading items to a sorter 104 of an item sorting system. The items are positioned side-by-side on one or more support surfaces 106 of the sorter, and for discharge of each of the items towards a first side 108 or a second side 110 of the sorter. The method includes determining which two or more items 16, 118 fit dimension-wise for positioning side-by-side on the sorter, determining which item of the two or more items 116, 118 will firstly reach its discharge location 120 and determining a discharge side among the sides, for the item which will firstly reach its discharge location. In response to these determinations and by diversion of the at least two items at divert positions 604, 606, the feeding sequence is ordered.
