Zusammenfassung:	The invention relates to a method and device for cutting a running thread (30). A clock pulse type laser beam (41) is spatially bundled by means of an optical element (37, 43), and the running thread(30) passes through the region (42, 48) where the laser beam (41) is bundled. A laser beam source (36) and the optical element (37, 43) are arranged and formed in a manner that the laser beam (41) emitted from the laser beam source (36) is bundled by the optical element (37, 43). The device for guiding the running thread (30) is designed to guide the running thread to pass through the region (42,48) where the laser beam (41) is bundled. A control device (51) is configured to activate the laser beam source (36) when needed so as to cut off the thread (30).
