Zusammenfassung:	A power generating turbine apparatus 4 comprises a generator 8 having a stator mounted along a substantially vertical axis and a rotor. The turbine 14 has a rotor 16 and at least one blade 18 supported on the rotor 16, and the generator and turbine rotors 16, 20 form an integral unit. The turbine 4 may be a water current turbine, and may be negatively buoyant so that it can be installed by lowering under the effect of gravity. The rotor 16 may have a failsafe braking system comprising electromagnetic levitation of the rotor powered by the supply network. The rotor 16 may be supported on the stator by annular bearings and a disc bearing 22 at one end of the rotor. An installation may use wet mate connectors to connect the generator to a foundation.
