Zusammenfassung:	The invention relates to a method (100) for identifying a user by means of a communication devices, said user being assigned an identification document, and said method comprising the following steps: acquiring (101) a biometric characteristic of the user by means of the communication device, in order to obtain an acquired biometric characteristic; transferring (103) the acquired biometric characteristic to an electronic identification service via a communication network by means of the communication device; and comparing (105) the acquired biometric characteristic with a biometric reference characteristic by means of the electronic identification service, in order to identify the user.
