Zusammenfassung:System and method of treating exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine using selective catalytic reduction and a modulated supply of diesel exhaust fluid. The modulated supply of diesel exhaust fluid induces variations in nitrogen oxides exiting a selective catalytic reduction chamber. An electronic control unit inputs a signal from a sensor that senses the variations in nitrogen oxides. The signal is filtered at the modulation frequency to isolate peak-to-peak variations in the signal caused by the modulated diesel exhaust fluid supply. Based on whether the peak-to-peak variations are above a threshold thus indicating a predominance of nitrogen oxides over reductant, the electronic control unit adjusts the supply of diesel exhaust fluid.
