Zusammenfassung:	The invention relates to a device comprising at least one electric arrangement which has an electric voltage of 1 kV or more in an operating state of the device and/or comprising at least one particle acceleration arrangement. The arrangement is at least partly arranged in a housing which contains an electrically insulating and/or arc-extinguishing gaseous medium, said medium consisting of 1,1,1,4,4,4-hexafluoro-2-butene or containing 1,1,1,4,4,4-hexafluoro-2-butene. The invention also relates to a method for using 1,1,1,4,4,4-hexafluoro-2-butene as an electrically insulating and/or arc-extinguishing gaseous medium.
