The system and methods include the steps of presenting an auditory stimulus of a duration of less than one second to the person; spreading the power of the stimulus across a frequency range in alternating regions of high and low intensity; including in the stimulus at least two regions of high intensity; and measuring the transient evoked electrical response of the brain of the person.
