Zusammenfassung:Systems and methods described herein provide a relatively fast engine restart. The systems and methods include receiving an engine stop command in a vehicle, the engine stop command structured to shut down an engine of the vehicle; receiving position data from a bi-directional sensor, the position data indicative of a position of a crankshaft wheel; determining a stop position of the crankshaft wheel based on the position data when the engine is shut down; determining a first viable cylinder of the engine to restart combustion in based on the determined stop position of the crankshaft wheel; and receiving an engine restart command, the engine restart command structured to restart the engine beginning with initiation of combustion in the first viable cylinder.
