The invention relates to a method for putting a lighting system (50) for a plurality of lamps (100) arranged in a distributed manner into operation, which lamps are connected to a central control unit (51), wherein the lamps are contacted individually and an operating address is transmitted to the lamps. When an operating address is assigned, it is checked if the contacted lamp (100) is a lamp (100) that requires a plurality of operating addresses, wherein in the case that the lamp (100) actually requires a plurality of operating addresses, all further required operating addresses are transmitted to said lamp (100) before addresses are assigned to further lamps (100) of the lighting system (50).
