SENSORS FOR A PORTABLE DEVICE

The present invention concerns a portable device comprising: a portable device housing configured to be carried by a user; and a sensing unit within said housing configured to characterize an object, said sensing unit comprising: an antenna array sensor comprising a plurality of electromagnetic antennas and a capacitive sensor; a transmitter unit for applying RF (radio-frequency) signals to said plurality of electromagnetic antennas and to said capacitive sensor; and a receiver unit for receiving RF signals from said plurality of electromagnetic antennas and from said capacitive sensor; and at least one processor, wherein the at least one processor is configured to: activate one or both of said electromagnetic antennas and said capacitive sensor according to the user's one or more application categories selection; convert the RF signals into a set of responses said responses are configured to characterize the object; and convert the set of responses into data.
