The metal reinforcing elements of at least one layer of the carcass reinforcement are non-wrapped cords which, in the test referred to as the permeability test, return a flow rate of less than 20 cm3/min, in a radial plane, at least over part of the meridian profile of the tire, the thickness of rubber compound between the interior surface of the cavity of the tire and the point of a metal reinforcing element of the carcass reinforcement closest to the interior surface of the cavity is less than or equal to 3.8 mm and the ratio between the thickness of rubber compound measured at the circumferential mid plane and the said thickness measured in another region of the tire is greater than 1.05.
