A rail vehicle and method for installing wear-resistant wheel shims. The invention relates to a rail vehicle with at least one wagon body (1) and at least one secondary spring (2) for cushioning the wagon body (1) on a bogie (3), and to a method for installing wear-resistant wheel shims, wherein the wagon body (1) has an opening (4) in the floor (5), wherein the secondary spring (2) comprises first means for connecting a first part of a gripping tool (10) to the secondary spring (2), wherein the secondary spring (2) is arranged in the region of the opening (4) in the floor (5) of the wagon body (1), and wherein the opening (4) in the floor (5) of the wagon body (1) is designed in such a manner that at least the first part of the gripping tool (10) can be passed through the opening (4) in the floor (5) of the wagon body (1) and can be connected to the secondary spring (2), wherein the first means of the secondary spring (2) for connecting the first part of the gripping tool (10) to the secondary spring (2) are arranged in such a manner that a force which is applied to the secondary spring (2) by the gripping tool (10) and which acts in a direction towards the wagon body (1) is introduced into the secondary spring (2) in such a manner that the secondary spring (2) is pretensioned against the wagon body (1).
