Zusammenfassung:The invention concerns a security document (1), for example in the form of an identity card, comprising a substrate (2) to which a surface pattern (12) is applied. The surface pattern (12) is generated by the fact that part of the outer surface (6) of the substrate (2) is in the form of a matt region (14) and another part is in the form of a glossy region (13). Advantageously, an individual pattern (10) is also formed on the substrate (2), said individual pattern (10) being produced by discolouration of the substrate (2). At least one matt region (14) of the surface pattern (12) is formed by the fact that the outer surface (6) of the substrate (2) is deformed to form a microscopic nep pattern (17).
