The variable airfoil section (64) is pivotably mounted at an end thereof in a joint (66) with a variable joint gap (68) that controls a size of an airfoil gap between the fixed airfoil section (62) and the variable airfoil section (64). A potting material (78) is located in the variable joint gap (68). The potting material (78) locks the variable joint gap (68) and locks in the size of the airfoil gap.
