INDICATOR DETECTION DEVICE AND INDICATOR DETECTION METHOD

A pointer detection apparatus is provided which can detect pointed positions pointed to by pointers of different types using only one pointer detection sensor. A pointer detection sensor is used which is configured such that a plurality of first conductors and a plurality of second conductors disposed in a first direction and a second direction which cross with each other are disposed in an opposing relationship to each other and in a spaced relationship by a predetermined distance from each other, and a variation of a capacitance formed between the first conductors and the second conductors based on a variation of a distance between the two conductors by pressing by a pointer is detected to detect a position pointed to by the pointer. A signal reception circuit which detects a reception signal from the pointer detection sensor has a first mode in which a position at which a first pointer having conductivity is positioned close to the pointer detection sensor and another position at which the first pointer presses the pointer detection sensor are detected on the basis of the variation of the capacitance, and a second mode in which a position at which a second pointer having no conductivity presses the pointer detection sensor is detected on the basis of the variation of the capacitance.
