The invention relates to a device (100) for generating or converting torque, said device having a piston element (122), an output element (150) which can rotate about a rotational axis (D) with respect to the piston element (122), and a guide element (160) which guides the output element (150) in such a manner that said output element (150), when the device (100) is in operation, simultaneously carries out, when driving the output element (150), a rotational movement (T) about the rotational axis (D) and a linear movement in the form of a periodic lifting movement along the rotational axis (D) with respect to the piston element (122). Said device also comprises a transmission element (192a, 192b) which can be guided on the guide element (160) and moved along the rotational axis (D), said transmission element being placed in contact with the output element (150) and during a period of the periodic lifting movement of the output element is held stationary in a first movement phase with respect to the guide element (160) and in a second movement phase, is moved together with the output element along the rotational axis (D). As a result, a device for generating or converting torque, in which an advantageous dynamic effect between a guide element and the output element when carrying out a periodic lifting movement of the output element can be guaranteed, is provided.
