By means of the present invention, it is possible to produce hydrogen by reacting water with a hydrogen-substituted mayenite ( Ca 24 Al 28 O 64 4+* 4H - ) resulting from substituting hydrogen for the free oxygen in mayenite (Ca 24 Al 28 O 64 4+* 2O 2- ), and it is possible to produce hydrogen by reacting water with conductive mayenite (Ca 24 Al 28 O 64 4+* 4e') obtained by means of ultraviolet irradiation of the hydrogen-substituted mayenite (Ca 24 Al 28 O 64 4+* 4H - ) resulting from substituting hydrogen for the free oxygen in mayenite (Ca 24 Al 28 O 64 4+* 2O 2- ).
