RETAINING ASSEMBLY

A retaining assembly 10 comprises a retaining device 16 and a flexible elongate arrangement 11, 12, 14 moveable lengthwise relative to the retaining device 16. The retaining device comprises a support 28 for supporting the flexible elongate arrangement 11, 12, 14 and engaging means 44, 46 on the support for engaging and retaining the flexible elongate arrangement 11, 12, 14 in a desired position relative to the retaining device. Sleeves 22, 24 may be present on the elongate flexible element 11, 12, 14 and the engaging means 44, 46 may be resiliently deformable of interacting with sleeves 22, 24 to increase the force required for the lengthwise movement of the elongate element 11, 12, 14 through the support 16. The engaging means 44, 46 optionally have one end that is movable relative to a distal support end on deformation to allow sleeves 22, 24 to pass through the support as the flexible elongate arrangement moves lengthwise.
