Zusammenfassung:A topical cosmetic composition that includes a dermatologically acceptable carrier and an effective amount of a skin commensal prebiotic to improve the health of the skin microbiome, thereby potentially improving the condition and/or appearance of the skin. The topical cosmetic compositions may be made by identifying a potential skin commensal prebiotic agent using a first in vitro assay; confirming the prebiotic potential of an identified prebiotic agent with a second in vitro assay or an in vivo assay; and mixing a confirmed prebiotic agent from and a dermatologically acceptable carrier to form a topical cosmetic composition.
