A mechanical safety locking device (1, 1') for fixing a swivelling body (22) that is rotatable about a swivel axis (20) in a locking position, wherein the safety locking device (1, 1') comprises an accelerator mass (2) which triggers the locking mechanism as soon as a force acts on the safety locking device (1, 1') in a direction perpendicular to the swivel axis (20) of the swivelling body (22), is characterised in that a locking element (4, 4') which is displaceable along a Y-axis parallel to the swivel axis (20) of the swivelling body (22) is provided, the accelerator mass (2) is movable in two directions (X, Z) perpendicularly to the Y-axis relative to the locking element, wherein the accelerator mass (2), the locking element (4, 4') and a mechanical force redirection arrangement (3, 3') are arranged along the Y-axis, wherein the force redirection arrangement (3, 3') causes the locking element (4, 4') to shift in a Y-direction when the accelerator mass (2) shifts from its rest position into one of directions (X, Z) perpendicular to the Y-axis. A safety locking device according to the invention can reliably prevent a storage compartment from opening in the event of a frontal collision.
