Zusammenfassung:	The present invention provides a method for determining axis inductances L d and L q in a synchronous machine. A number of pulses are applied to a machine under test and current and voltage data for each pulse are recorded. A mathematical model for expressing the average inductance (L A ) and the variable inductance (L B ), each as a function of the direct and quadrature currents (i d and iq) is provided. The axis inductances are determined from the average and variable inductances.
