Zusammenfassung:	The instrument e.g. timepiece (1), has two duration recording units e.g. electronic counters, which are actuatable for arming and disarming of the recording units by a control unit (13) formed of a push button (P2). A switching unit triggers disarming of one of the recording units during a command to arm the other recording unit, and retains aggregate recording of time counted on each recording unit. A selection unit e.g. rotary bezel or push button (P3), is controlled by a user or/and by a measurement unit or/and by a control signal to trigger the arming of one of the recording units. An independent claim is also included for a method for counting duration for differentiated phases.
