Zusammenfassung:An electrical system having a DC link and a method is such a system. The system comprising a controlled rectifier, an electrical power source connected to the controlled rectifier, the output of the controlled rectifier being connected to the DC link, means for storing electrical energy, at least one DC to DC converter connected between the DC link and the means for storing electrical energy, the at least one DC to DC converter being adapted to transfer power in both directions, a motor, at least one DC to AC converter connected between the DC link and the motor, the at least one DC to AC converter being adapted to transfer power in both directions, wherein the controlled rectifier comprises means for controlling the DC voltage of the DC link when the voltage of the DC link is in a first voltage range (Zone 0). The at least one DC to DC converter is adapted to control the DC voltage of the DC link by charging the means for storing electrical energy when the voltage of the DC link is in a second voltage range (Zone 1), the second voltage range having higher voltage values than the first voltage range (Zone 0), or by discharging the means for storing electrical energy when the voltage of the DC link is in a third voltage range (Zone -1), the third voltage range having lower voltages than the first voltage range (Zone 0).
