A method of making a washing or cleaning agent comprises: neutralizing a composition comprising a biocidal quaternary ammonium compound and an alkoxylated oxo alcohol with potassium hydroxide; and producing the washing or cleaning agent from the composition, wherein the washing or cleaning agent has a pH in the range of 7.5 to 10.5.
