Zusammenfassung:	A steam line comprises an inner pipe for conveying steam generated by a steam plant and an outer pipe enclosing the first pipe. There is a vacuum between the inner pipe and the outer pipe to provide thermal insulation for the inner pipe. With this arrangement, there is no need to provide thermal insulation around the outer pipe and so the steam line is suitable for use in clean environments. The steam line may further comprise at least one getter for removing gas from the vacuum, optionally the, or each, getter comprising barium as an active getting material.
