Zusammenfassung:	The invention relates to a method for the detection of bacteria, in particular Mycobacteria and related organisms, more in particular Mycobacterium tuberculosis, comprising the steps of culturing the bacteria and monitoring bacterial growth by automated imaging. For this the bacteria are preferably cultured in the presence of an optically detectable probe, in particular a luminescent or luminogenic probe, more in particular a fluorescent or fluorogenic probe, a phosphorescent or phosphorogenic probe, or a chemiluminescent or chemiluminogenic probe.
