Zusammenfassung:	The converter (12) has several phase lines (16u,16v,16w) for connecting the electrical machine such as electric motor (14). Each phase line for the converter has a half-bridge with upper and lower semiconductor switches (41u,41v,41w,42u,42v,42w). The upper and lower semiconductor switches are configured to electrically connect the phase lines intermittently to positive and negative supply lines (31,32) of converter. The converter operates intermittently in a primary energy recovery limiting mode when upper semiconductor switches are intermittently on. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) controller for converter for electrical machine; and (2) method for operating converter of electrical machine.
