Zusammenfassung:	The present invention relates to preparation of specimen or samples for analysis or diagnosis, and more particularly, to a device and method for recovery of a specimen/sample from a collecting material. The recovery device includes a collection device and a drive mechanism operatively coupled to the collection device. The collection device may carry out a rotary and/or translatory motion due to the drive mechanism. The drive mechanism enables the release of the collected specimen by rotating and/or moving the collection device in a translatory motion whereby the collected specimen is released from the collection device, preferably into a receptacle.
