Zusammenfassung:	The device i.e. washing machine (1), has a water container (4) fixedly arranged at a front-sided edge bar (10) of a drum (3) through a gap formed at a preset distance to the drum and to a housing (2) of the device. The edge bar defines a feed opening (5) of the drum. A collar (13) is arranged at a region between the drum and the housing. A height adjustment device (16) adjusts height of the drum relative to a position of the collar at specific operating state of the drum based on deflection of position of the drum from position at ground state of the drum. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a household appliance for maintaining laundry items.
