Zusammenfassung:	An image processing apparatus and method forms an image on a recording material (101) with a plurality of scanning operations using either a single recording head or a plurality of recording heads that record dots of the same colour. Allocating means is provided to allocate first multi-level image data in respect of the first scanning operation and second multi-level image data in respect of the second scanning operation. Gradation reduction means generates reduced gradation data corresponding to the first scanning operation and the second scanning operation by performing gradation reduction on the first and second multi-level image data respectively. The first and second multi-level image data have the same value but the first and second reduced gradation data have different values.
