An optical cable comprises a plurality of stranded optical transmission elements (10). The optical transmission elements are stranded in a first stranding direction (U1) at a first section (B1) of the cable and are stranded in a second stranding direction (U2) at a second section (B2) of the cable located adjacent relating to the first section. The cable comprises a sheath (200) surrounding the optical transmission elements (10) having a marking (300) disposed at a surface (201) of the sheath at a position (SH) between the first and second section of the cable. A stranding device (1000) to switch between the stranding directions and a marking device (3000) to dispose a marking on a tape formed to the sheath (200) by a sheath forming device (2000) is provided to produce the optical cable.
