Electrical connector with contact spacing member

A contact sub-assembly (110) is provided for an electrical connector. The contact sub-assembly (110) includes a base (130) and an array (117) of contacts (118) held by the base (130). Each contact (118) extends along a length from a terminating end portion (154) to a tip end portion (156). The tip end portion (156) includes a tip surface. Each contact (118) has a mating interface (120) located along the length of the contact (118) between the terminating end portion (154) and the tip end portion (156). The contact sub-assembly (110) also includes a spacing member (180) formed separately from the base (130). The spacing member (180) engages each of the contacts (118) such that each contact (118) is positioned relative to each adjacent contact in the array (117). At least a portion of the spacing member (180) engages each contact (118) at a location along the length of the contact (118) that is between the mating interface (120) and the tip surface.
