Zusammenfassung:Producing phyllosilicate tactoids, comprises: (a) producing synthetic smectite (I) by high temperature-melt synthesis; (b) replacing the interlayer cation by a cation exchanger, and dispersing the phyllosilicate in an aqueous solution; (c) subsequently replacing the interlayer cation against a cation by cation exchanger; and (d) optionally completely or partially occupying the outer surface (1) by cationic compounds, ionic and non-ionic surfactants or amphiphiles, metal complexes, polyelectrolytes, polymers or their precursors, or silanes. Producing phyllosilicate tactoids, comprises: (a) producing synthetic smectite of formula ([M n / v a l e n c e](inter)[M1 mM2 o](oct)[M3 4](tet)X 1 0Y1 2) (I) by high temperature-melt synthesis; (b) replacing the interlayer cation when it is not already exhibits a hydration enthalpy of -6282 to -406, preferably -4665 to -1360 [kJ/mol] by a cation exchanger, and dispersing the phyllosilicate in an aqueous solution; (c) subsequently replacing interlayer cation against a cation with hydration enthalpy of -405 to 0, preferably -322 to -277 [kJ/mol] by cation exchanger; and (d) optionally completely or partially occupying the outer surface (1) by cationic compounds, ionic and non-ionic surfactants or amphiphiles, metal complexes, polyelectrolytes, polymers or their precursors, or silanes. M : metal cations with oxidation state of 1-3; M1 : metal cations with oxidation state of 2 or 3, preferably Mg, Al or Fe; M2 : metal cations with oxidation state of 1 or 2; M3 : atoms with oxidation state of 4; X : di-anions; Y1 : mono-anions; m : = 2, 0 (for M1 of the oxidation state 3), or = 3, 0 (for M1 of the oxidation state 2); o : = 1, 0; and n : 0.2-0.8. An independent claim is included for the phyllosilicate tactoids non-capable of swelling, obtained by the above process.
